Overview

The family of low voltage (LV) power supplies includes single width boards housing 6 or 8 individual floating channels. The boards are designed to provide maximum voltages from 4.5 to 32 V, with up to 1 Mv set and monitor resolution and can provide output power up to 60W per channel (A255x boards). 

All the boards are provided with both current and voltage protections. If overcurrent occurs, the channel is signaled to be in “overcurrent” and is switched off (A251x boards) while for A151Xb, A255x and “C” Versions of A251x the relevant channel can be programmed either to turn off after a programmable trip time or to remain on and to provide the maximum allowed current. This feature allows the module to perform as a current generator.

The voltage ramp rates may be set independently for each channel. Moreover, the individual floating channels allow on-detector grounding, thus allowing to reduce the noise level. Output channels are delivered through DB37 or D-sub 8 (A251x boards) connectors.

The family is composed by three group of boards detailed here below.

A1513B / A1516B / A1517B

The A1513B, A1516B, and A1517B are single width (5 TE wide) boards housing 6 LV floating channels each. The boards provide 10V / 2.7A, 15 V / 1.5A, and7V / 4A outputs respectively, with 10 mV monitor resolution.

The voltage drop over the cables can be recovered by using either the featured Remote Sensing Lines, to be connected on the load for sensing the drop, or an automatic Line Drop Recovery system. Output channels are delivered through 37 pin DB connectors.

A2517 / A2518 / A2519

The A2517, A2518 and A2519 are single width (5 TE wide) boards housing 8 LV floating channels each. The boards provide 5V / 15A, 8 V / 10 A, and 15 V / 5 A outputs with 10 mV monitor resolution. The Maximum channel power is 50 W.

Channels can be connected in parallel with modularity 2 or 4 to obtain higher output power; this feature is not available on A251xC versions. Each output channel is provided with individual remote sensing lines to compensate for the voltage drop over the connection cables. Channels feature a PID (proportional integrative-derivative) digital controller, whose parameters are User programmable. In this way, the control loop can be optimized to any load conditions independently for each channel. Output channels are delivered through DB37 or D-sub 8connectors

Universal Multichannel System - Mainframes

Modularity, Compatibility, Connectivity, Usability and Solidity are the keywords of the system design. The Mainframes have been specifically designed to power all detector technologies found in modern Physics Experiments, such as photomultipliers, wire chambers, streamers tubes, silicon detectors and others.

The systems are modular, flexible and match not only the requirements of major experiments with large number of channels but also the practical needs of test laboratories, where simple manual operations on a limited number of channels are often desired.

Software

A complete set of Software Tools is available (free download) to control CAEN Universal Multichannel Power Supply Systems, from low level libraries to graphical application software:

CAEN, in collaboration with CERN, has developed an OPC server which allows control of its power supply systems by any OPC compliant client application.
HiVoCS HiVoCS is a Web Interface available on any SY4527-SY5527 CPU. This Interface can be accessed directly via browser without installing any additional software.
