Overview

Radioroc 2 is a 64-channel front-end ASIC specifically designed for the readout of silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs). It features the capability to trigger at levels as low as 1/3 photoelectron (p.e.), offering dual-gain energy measurement capabilities. On the high gain, it achieves an outstanding signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) exceeding 10 for single p.e., while ensuring a broad dynamic range on the low gain. Additionally, Radioroc 2 boasts the ability to deliver triggers across all 64 channels with remarkably low jitter, anticipated to be around 35 picoseconds FWHM for a single p.e. (ASIC only), making it exceptionally suited for high-precision applications. It also supports photo-counting rates exceeding 100 MHz.

The ASIC allows for precise adjustments of the SiPM’s high voltage (gain) on a per-channel basis through an 8-bit DAC connected to each input. This feature, along with channel-specific calibration for trigger thresholds enabled by 6-bit DACs, ensures fine-tuned performance. Calibration of Radioroc can be efficiently achieved using the SiPM’s dark noise.

Radioroc 2 also excels in timing resolution, capable of achieving less than 35 picoseconds FWHM, and maintains 1% linearity in energy measurement up to 2000 p.e. This dynamic range is only limited by the 1.2 V power supply on the input analogue pad. Furthermore, it maintains a low power consumption rate of 3.3 mW per channel, highlighting its efficiency and suitability for advanced SiPM readout applications.
