Overview

Psiroc 1 is a versatile 64-channel front-end ASIC designed for reading out PIN diodes, silicon strips, and GEM detectors, catering to a wide range of detector capacitances from 0 to several hundred pF. It features precise triggering capabilities down to 0.5 fC for detectors with capacitances below 20pF, along with dual-gain energy measurement that ensures an excellent Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR over 10 for 0.5 fC) on high gain and extensive dynamic range on low gain. Psiroc also supports channel-wise Time-over-Threshold (ToT) output for signals exceeding a few pC.

This ASIC is highly customizable, offering programmable output of high/low gain shapers, individual triggers, or ToT signals, with two output pins per channel. The preamplifier gain is adjustable from 125 mV/pC to 4 V/pC, accommodating a broad spectrum of signal strengths. Charge measurement is facilitated by peak detectors, which can operate in track & hold mode due to an internal delay cell. Psiroc outputs analog data via two multiplexed outputs for external ADC read-out, with shapers’ shaping time tunable from 20 ns to 3 µs.

Additionally, Psiroc allows for precise channel-by-channel calibration of trigger thresholds for time trigger and ToT, utilizing individual 6-bit DACs. This feature, along with ASIC-wide or channel-wise data acquisition options, makes Psiroc a highly adaptable solution for a variety of detection and measurement applications.
