Overview

This family of High Voltage power supplies includes single and double width boards housing up to 24 output channels. The boards are designed to provide voltage up to 8 kV, and current up to 1 mA with up to 100 mV set and 10 mV monitor resolution. All the boards are compatible with all CAEN Universal Multichannel Power Supply Systems. The available grounding option, depending on the family are the following: Common Ground (AGxxxx) or Common Floating Ground (Axxxx) except for the A1534 that features individual foating channels insulated up to 100V. Common Floating Return allows on-detector grounding reducing the noise level; the foating return is insulated from the crate earth up to ±50 V (with a 65 V hardware limit).

The HV ramp-up and ramp-down rates may be selected, for each channel, in the 1 ÷ 500 V/s range (1 V/s step). The boards are provided with both current and voltage protections. If overcurrent occurs, the relevant channel can be programmed either to turn of after a programmable trip time or to remain on and to provide the maximum allowed current. This particular feature allows the module to perform as a current generator. Channels may be enabled or disabled via the Interlock logic. The voltage ramp rates may be set independently for each channel.

Universal Multichannel System - Mainframes

Modularity, Compatibility, Connectivity, Usability and Solidity are the keywords of the system design. The Mainframes have been specifically designed to power all detector technologies found in modern Physics Experiments, such as photomultipliers, wire chambers, streamers tubes, silicon detectors and others.

The systems are modular, flexible and match not only the requirements of major experiments with large number of channels but also the practical needs of test laboratories, where simple manual operations on a limited number of channels are often desired.

Software

A complete set of Software Tools is available (free download) to control CAEN Universal Multichannel Power Supply Systems, from low level libraries to graphical application software:

CAEN, in collaboration with CERN, has developed an OPC server which allows control of its power supply systems by any OPC compliant client application.
HiVoCS HiVoCS is a Web Interface available on any SY4527-SY5527 CPU. This Interface can be accessed directly via browser without installing any additional software.
EPICS IOC Mainframes CPUs integrates an EPICS Input / Output Controller (IOC) that provides access to the Process Variables using the Channel Access Protocol.
CAEN HV Wrapper Library It is a set of ANSI C functions bundled in a library, providing the software developer an unified software interface for the control of all the CAEN Power Supply products
